Rochester’s rock legend and Monroe Community College alum Lou Gramm ’71 was among the elite musicians honored on October 19 at the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Lou, a former member and lead singer of Foreigner, along with the attending original members of the band delivered speeches and performed a medley of songs after accepting the honor.

Lou grew up in the Rochester suburb of Gates. He attended Gates-Chili High School graduating in 1968 and majored in education and art at MCC. Lou was the front man for the band Black Sheep before joining Foreigner in 1976. Foreigner’s first eight singles charted in the Billboard Top 20. Their nearly 50-year legacy, commercial success, musicality and song writing prowess has left a lasting legacy.

Inducted into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame in 1992, Lou returned to MCC to launch his autobiography, Juke Box Hero – My Five Decades in Rock ‘n’ Roll in May 2013. Lou Gramm is considered among the greatest and most successful rock vocalists of all-time.
